12 Most Popular High CBD Flower Strains

12 Most Popular High CBD Flower Strains

Written by Kandi Neal:

CBD, one of 100+ organic molecules found in the Hemp and Cannabis plants, has been known to have tremendous physiological benefits to us humans. From helping manage anxiety to pain relief, Cannabidiol usage has risen in popularity due to low, if none, of the psychoactive effects of THC.

In 2018, the Hemp act was passed, making CBD derived from Industrial Hemp legal in the United States, as long as levels of THC are below 0.3%. CBD and THC are commonly found in products together due to the symbiotic relationship they have on relaxing the mind and body. CBD flower and CBD oils have been on the hotlist of many manufacturers and customers alike.

What is “CBD Flower”?

The hemp plant bears flowers exactly like marijuana does. Usually this flower will be processed so that the cannabidiol (CBD) can be extracted. However, in more recent times, the CBD market has seen an expanding desire for hemp flower with a high concentration of this up and coming cannabinoid. For fans of cannabis, but not fans of the side effects from marijuana, hemp flower CBD provides an excellent alternative.

What is “CBD Oil”?

Simply put, CBD oil refers to an extract of hemp or cannabis that is formulated specifically to contain high levels of CBD and may also include various levels of other plant components. The term, “CBD oil,” is actually a general term that describes CBD extracts on a broad level. When seeking out CBD oil, you are more than likely to encounter it in a variety of forms.

High CBD Strains List

Although cannabis can be a great alternative to traditional medications when dealing with anxiety, keep in mind that not all strains all created equal. That is why it is important to pick a strain with a high CBD-to-THC ratio. Even though cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are remarkably similar structurally, there is one huge difference. While THC is a psychoactive compound, CBD is not. The THC is what creates the “high” associated with cannabis, which for some, will actually induce anxiety. In contrast, the use of high CBD strains can assist in easing symptoms of anxiety. The following list are some of the best CBD strains to try if you are looking to start with something mellow. Just remember, each strain will vary, so it may take a few tries to find the one that is exactly right for you.

Sour Space Candy

This strain has a high CBD content, with an average of 17 percent CBD and only a small amount of THC content. It earns its name from the sour notes in the aroma, however, it has earned some great reviews for relieving symptoms of depression, as well as anxiety.

Cherry Wine

Just like Sour Space Candy, this strain also has an average of 17 percent CBD and less than one percent THC, making it one of the most sought after high CBD low THC strains.  Well known for its relaxing properties, it has the added benefit of smelling of cheese and wine!

Although Lifter is not quite the highest CBD strain, it still comes in at around 16 percent CBD with just a trace amount of THC. Although there are mixed reviews in regard to its aroma, it provides a very relaxing effect without any of the high associated with THC.

Like Lifter, CBD products derived from Elektra will average around 16 percent CBD with less than one percent THC. In fact, some reviews out there have even tested it as high as 20%, knocking Sour Space Candy out of its top spot. It is also known to cause extreme relaxation – but watch out for its distinct aroma!

This Rockstar strain comes in at 14 percent CBD with no measurable amount of THC.  The two most frequent words used when describing ACDC are “happy” and “relaxed.”

Remedy is also a 14 percent CBD strain that is distinguished by its clean, lemony-pine scent. According to its users, it will mellow you out without any of the psychoactive effects that come from high THC strains.

Although it averages at about 13 percent CBD, laboratory tests have actually found that it can contain 21.05 percent with a THC percent of only .086.  It was even awarded with “best CBD flower” at the 2014 Emerald Cup.

Ringo’s Gift

Although strains can measure as high as 20 CBD-1THC, Ringo’s gift typically comes in right around 13-1. It is actually a hybrid of two strains previously mentioned: Harle Tsu & ACDC. A lot of reviews report improvements in both stress, anxiety, and sleep while using this particular strain.

Sour Tsunami

This one is a popular go-to and one of the very first high CBD strains created. Averaging 13:1 CBD/THC, it tends to promote feelings of happiness and relaxation without any unwanted side effects.

Sweet and Sour Widow

This Indica-dominant strain is packed with CBD. It offers both recreational and medicinal users a 1:1 ratio THC:CBD, providing individuals the best of both worlds when using them together. This strain contains between 5-11% of both CBD and THC. Even though it has a reputation of smelling of sweet onions, most users don’t seem to mind!

Canna Tsu

Last but not least, even though this strain can contain more THC than the rest, it’s still something to consider if you have a higher tolerance for THC. It will usually contain anywhere from 8-11 percent THC and 7-10 percent CBD. With hints of citrus, it has been known to be used in the treatment of seizures. In fact, the use of CBD has been well-documented as therapeutic for patients who suffer from epilepsy, as documented in the case of Charlotte Figi.

Charlotte’s Web

Although Charlotte’s Web is middle of the pack at 13 percent CBD, it is one of the most well-known strains. With extraordinarily little THC, it is used in many health and wellness products, aiding with depression, anxiety, and pain without any psychoactive effects.

Safety first

If you are an experienced consumer, feel free to go for a strain like Jack the Ripper! But if you’re just beginning to dip your toe in the water with CBD, start slowly since most still contain a trace amount of THC. Always err on the side of caution since every individual has slightly different chemistry. Always give yourself a little time before taking more. Lastly, have fun experimenting with finding the CBD strain that suits you!
