What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is one of over 100+ occurring cannabinoids found within the Hemp and Cannabis plants. This molecule is known for its therapeutic interaction with all mammals’ naturally occurring Endocannabinoid System, or ECS. The ECS has been found to regulate the body’s homeostasis process, such as sleep cycles, blood pressure, body temperature, and more!
What Does CBD Do?
CBD comes from the hemp plant which is part of the cannabis family known for having high percentage of CBD and low percentage of THC.
CBD is being studied for its impact on the human Endocannabinoid System (ECS) and its ability to help achieve homeostasis.
It is thought that phyto-cannabinoids like CBD, attach to receptors that are located throughout the body and have the ability to mimic the cannabinoids our bodies produce.
Will CBD get me high?
No. CBD will not get you ‘high’. Although, in some users, a high dose of CBD may induce adverse effects such as nausea, drowsiness, and sometimes diarrhea. CBD is not psychoactive, but CBD can result in a different experience from person to person. We at Cannafyl like to call it a “personal journey”.
What is the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, & Isolate CBD?
There are distinct differences between the popularly known Isolate CBD, Broad Spectrum CBD, & full-spectrum CBD based products.
Isolate means that the CBD molecule has been isolated by itself, resulting in a fine white powder that can be infused into oil, creams, food, and more.
Broad spectrum CBD includes the CBD molecule, as well as small amounts of other molecules like CBN, CBG. All THC has been removed. Broad spectrum allows more phytocannabinoids to enter the body, providing more amplified effects compared to a plain Isolate.
Full-spectrum CBD contains the whole plant with nothing removed. Full-spectrum products have been found to be the most beneficial long-term.
When you compare an Isolate product to a full-spectrum, it has been shown that Isolates show a bell-curve effect when it comes to tolerance. This means you must keep increasing your dose of an Isolated product. Eventually it provides little to no effect. A full spectrum CBD product will not adhere to your tolerance; therefore making it a more beneficial long term product.
What Are Terpenes?
Terpenes are naturally occurring molecules found in plants, and are responsible for giving a plant its distinct smell, taste, etc. Each terpene is known to have its own set of benefits, so these benefits are amplified when combined with CBD. Cannafyl™ products combine cannabinoids with a specific set of terpenes to not only provide you with a full-spectrum product, but increase the benefits of specific healing effects depending on your own unique symptoms.
What is the Entourage Effect?
You might hear the phrase as it refers to the compounds present in hemp, working in concert to create “the sum of all the parts”. This is the magic of a full-spectrum product.
The Entourage Effect is the benefit you get from ingesting multiple components of the hemp plant together instead of ingesting one component at-a-time. This means that having all the naturally occurring parts of the plant together creates a more potent, synergistic effect on the body.
Will CBD interact with my medications? Should I talk to my doctor about starting CBD?
Cannabidiol is currently being studied for this exact reason. When you take a medication, your body must metabolize, or break down the compounds. An enzyme called CYP450, found in the human body, is responsible for transforming foreign substances in the body to be eliminated from the body through the liver in an easy process.
Some substances can cause an interaction with the CYP450, like the common ‘grapefruit warnings’ found on many medications. By changing the rate of metabolism, CBD may create effects synergistically that were not originally intended by the medication’s original design and purpose.
If you are taking CBD with any other medications, it’s important to discuss the topic and regimen with your healthcare provider. Most doctors have the ability to perform pharmaceutical tests to ensure there are no negative interaction effects, so you may still safely take CBD with medications having the grapefruit warning, but only with doctor supervision & guidance.
How are Cannafyl CBD products made?
Cannafyl™ products are made using Full Spectrum Hemp CBD distillate, which is a far more viscous, liquid form of CBD. Distillate contains trace amounts of other cannabinoids which greatly increases the effects of the product.
