Can I Vape CBD Oil?

Can I Vape CBD Oil?

Vaporizing CBD Oil – The Facts

Can I vape CBD Oil? This is a very important question. When it comes to vaping CBD, you can’t just vape any CBD oil you find on the market. For example, you can’t just put a CBD tincture oil into a vaping device and expect it to vaporize. Most CBD tinctures oils you see on the market are manufactured for sublingual usage or ingestion via adding it to foods or drinks – NOT for combustion in a vaporizing device. This means that the oil bases in a CBD Oil & a CBD E-liquid are not the same.

CBD tincture oils are not to be vaped under any circumstances. They are not to be confused with a CBD E-liquid; a vaporable base containing CBD. By being able to understand and recognize the correct products for your needs, you will be able to make smarter choices when it comes to your daily CBD regimen.

What is CBD?

First off, what is CBD? CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring molecule found in the Hemp and Cannabis plants that have therapeutic effects on regulating the body’s endocannabinoid system.

The Endo-Cannabinoid System is a natural body system in all mammals that helps regulate the body’s homeostasis process. Homeostasis is maintained by many physiological processes such as internal body temperature by sweating or shivering.

Cannabidiol has grown increasingly popular. With its gain in popularity, CBD-infused products have been taking the industry by storm.

What is the best way to use CBD?

One of the quickest and most effective ways to use CBD is to “vape” it. This method is distributed throughout the body quickly and easily.

This can include the following:

  • A liquid specifically formulated for vaping devices that you can fill yourself with a CBD liquid
  • A cartridge filled by the manufacturer with CBD liquid for use with a battery device
  • A self-contained “disposable” device filled by the manufacturer with various formulas of CBD liquid

Are CBD Oils & CBD Vape Oils The Same Thing?

Simply put, no, nothing about a vape oil will actually contain any sort of oil in its ingredients list. When researching whether or not you can vape “CBD Oil” or what it means to vaporize CBD oil, the answers aren’t always very clear. Articles that say you can vape CBD oil are a bit misleading.

The CBD industry exploded in 2018, bringing thousands of new products to the market daily, and millions of consumers across the United States alone. This created thousands of new products that flooded the market- all claiming to do everything that the other does, but better.

The average consumer can easily be overwhelmed by this amount of new information and may impulse buy a product without fully knowing what that product really does. A huge misconception in the CBD industry is that CBD oils, hemp oil, and CBD vape oils are basically the same thing. They aren’t.

CBD Oils

The most common name for a tincture oil containing Cannabidiol “CBD oil”, or a phyto-cannabinoid rich oil. Hemp, Coconut, & Grapeseed oils are some of the popular bases used to suspend the CBD in, therefore making it a “CBD oil”. CBD oils are generally consumed sublingually, topically, or infused in a gel capsule or edible. CBD Vape Oils

A true CBD vape oil is not actually going to contain any oils at all, but be formulated with a base of VG, or vegetable glycerin. It is better described as CBD vape liquid.

Vegetable glycerin is used as a solvent, or carrier, for E-Liquids so that you can vape CBD out of your device, and also helps create the tick ‘clouds’ that comes from inhaling the product. It will also contain CBD extract, and possibly terpenes and flavoring.

There are a lot of E-Liquids still being formulated with PG, or propylene glycol, which is usually used as a part of the VG solvent base because it vaporizes when heated up.

Luckily, we live in a time where many VG-only formulas are on the market, and this ingredient is slashed out of many “all-natural” CBD Vape liquids. If you have no choice but to purchase a VG/PG base, look for the lowest PG to VG ratio you can find, i.e. 80/20 VG/PG.

Unlike a CBD vape oil, that’s used for inhalation, a regular CBD tincture oil is to only be ingested – not inhaled. Inhalation of a CBD tincture oil can cause damaging, life-threatening effects such as lipoid pneumonia, or inflammation of the lungs due to fat (oil) particles.

What Do I Need to Know About Vaping CBD?

Vaping CBD allows users to enjoy their CBD on the go. This method of using CBD allows faster activation times. CBD effects can be noticed almost immediately for some and at the very minimum in as little as 20 minutes.

When it comes down to what products work best for you, choose vaping CBD if it complements your current lifestyle, not if it holds you back.

With the growing industry, there have been many companies that don’t fully deliver what they advertise, leaving people questioning the safety of vaping in general. One of the biggest scares in the vaping industry has been illegal additives into products sold on the streets.

There have been news reports on deaths related to vape liquids being cut with vitamin E oils, and other dangerous particles. This indeed is something to worry about when deciding on where to source your product, but should not be alarming when purchasing from a reputable CBD distributor.

Your local CBD shop should be requiring test results of all products carried on their shelves, guaranteeing a quality product.

Do your research. Only buy from reputable brands. Your health matters.

How Do I Vape CBD oil?

CBD for Sub-Ohm (Traditional Tank System)

The first step to correctly vaping CBD is to purchase a high-quality CBD E-Liquid with minimal ingredients. As far as what strength to get, it comes down to user preference. There is no set dosage for vaping CBD, or for CBD in general.

Each person is different in how their body reacts to the molecule and will vary in the dosage that compliments their needs. It’s best to take it one puff at a time and to pay attention to how you feel in-between inhalations.

The second step is to have your device in hand. Any vaping device with a refillable tank will do; typically sub-ohm tanks will vaporize the liquid more smoothly than a pod system will. Fill the tank up with the liquid, and if a new coil was inserted, let it soak for about 10 minutes. Failure to saturate the cotton coil inside your device will result in burning dry cotton, ruining the flavor of the vape and the longevity of your coil.

CBD Cartridges

Another common way that you may see CBD being vaped, is out of a 510 thread cartridge. A 510 vape cartridge is a slim tank designed to fit on a smaller battery, similar to the style of a literal “pen”. These devices take a different liquid entirely. They don’t usually support the vaporizing of VG, but of a concentrated base such as distillate.

Hemp Distillate is a step above isolating CBD by itself, as this material may contain other cannabinoids as well as terpenes from the Hemp plant. This material is more pure and potent than just your regular CBD-infused oil and tends to have more versatile results.

Commonly, these devices are usually available for sale pre-filled with distillate. Once the cartridge product runs out, you are able to dispose of the cartridge without refilling the small tank. This liquid is extremely sticky and hard to work with for an inexperienced user.

Conclusion

  • When it comes to vaping CBD oil, it’s best to educate yourself on the products you are interested in. Make sure the vape oils do not actually contain any oils and have low levels of PG.
  • Always purchase your products from reputable sources, and never buy an E-Liquid off the streets. It’s better to be sure and safe than to wish you would’ve been before you purchased a faulty product.
  • Always use the proper devices for the products you purchase, and if you aren’t sure if your product is compatible, call your local CBD or vape store for education.
  • IMPORTANT: You can’t just vape any CBD tincture oil you have already, it must be specifically formulated to be vaporized. CBD vape oil is not the same thing as CBD oil, and if you inhale CBD oil, it can have life-threatening consequences. Stay safe out there vapers!
